First Grade
Our first grade curriculum focuses on developing foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Students build literacy through phonics, reading comprehension, and writing exercises, while math lessons introduce addition, subtraction, and basic problem-solving strategies. Hands-on activities and collaborative learning help strengthen social and emotional growth. This program also prepares students for a smooth transition to elementary school by promoting independence, adaptability, and a love for learning.
First Grade Curriculum
Literacy
In first grade, students build a strong foundation in reading and language through daily focus on “The Big 5” components of literacy. They develop phonemic awareness by listening to and playing with the sounds in spoken words. Through phonics, they learn how letters and sounds work together to help them read and spell. Fluency is practiced by reading aloud with accuracy, expression, and appropriate speed. Students work on comprehension by discussing and analyzing the meaning of stories and texts they read or hear. Finally, they grow their vocabulary by learning new words and using them in context. Together, these essential skills support students in becoming confident, capable readers and communicators.
